Scott's Take
Rockcliffe Wines in Denmark, WA is regarded as a strong regional producer that combines excellent terroir, variety, and a welcoming visitor experience. Their cool-climate vineyards on granite soils give freshness and minerality, and their broad range of wines offers something for both casual drinkers and more serious enthusiasts. They’ve earned respect through Halliday 5-star ratings, awards, and consistent quality, while their cellar door is well-loved for its hospitality, food, and relaxed atmosphere. Strengths include approachability, sustainability, and value, though at times the wide range of labels can blur their identity, some reds lean a little heavy on oak, and premium pricing raises expectations. Overall, Rockcliffe delivers reliable, well-made wines with a true sense of place, making them a standout in the Denmark wine scene.

About RockCliffe Winery
Rockcliffe Winery is located in the Scotsdale Valley near Denmark in Western Australia’s Great Southern region. The land was used as apple orchards in the early 1900s, and vines such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were first planted in 1987. In 2002, geologist Steve Hall purchased the property and expanded the cellar door, restaurant, and winery, with a new facility built in 2007 capable of producing around 50,000 cases per year. The name was changed to Rockcliffe in 2013, inspired by the granite cliffs along the nearby coastline and the same granite beneath their vineyards that shapes the wines’ character. Today, Rockcliffe produces a wide range of cool-climate wines, operates a modern contract winery, and is well known for its welcoming cellar door, food experiences, and commitment to sustainability.

Winemaking
Rockcliffe’s winemaking style reflects its cool-climate Denmark location, focusing on freshness, balance, and expression of terroir. The granite-based soils and maritime influence give their whites crisp acidity and minerality, while the reds show bright fruit, moderate tannins, and elegance rather than heavy power. They work across a wide range of varieties, from classic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to Shiraz and Malbec, aiming for clean, approachable wines that remain true to the region’s character.
